When Lia Abbate pursued a degree in Classics and Theatre at Wellesley College, she thoroughly enjoyed directing 3 full-scale theatre productions including Shakespeare’s King Lear and Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. Later, she studied filmmaking with Edward Dmytryk, Abraham Polonsky, and iconoclast Nina Menkes at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Ju
When Lia Abbate pursued a degree in Classics and Theatre at Wellesley College, she thoroughly enjoyed directing 3 full-scale theatre productions including Shakespeare’s King Lear and Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler. Later, she studied filmmaking with Edward Dmytryk, Abraham Polonsky, and iconoclast Nina Menkes at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Jumping into animation, she’s managed world-class teams of artists at Warner Brothers, Disney, Sony, and Illumination. Throughout, her guiding principle has been to build community and create space for optimistic and truthful expression. In her free time, you’ll find her chalking Degas’ ballerinas on the pavement and dreaming up new worlds.
